USS SAND LANCE was the 12th STURGEON - class attack submarine and the second ship in the Navy named after the fish.
Last homeported in Groton, CT, the SAND LANCE was both decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on August 7, 1998, after she had already been deactivated while still in commission on April 1, 1998. Currently, the SAND LANCE is berthed at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, Wash., awaiting to be disposed of through the Navy's Nuclear Powered Ship and Submarine Recycling Program.
