USS ELMER MONTGOMERY was the 31st KNOX-class frigate. Decommissioned and stricken from the Navy list on June 30, 1993, the ELMER MONTGOMERY was transferred to Turkey on December 13, 1993.

Accidents aboard USS ELMER MONTGOMERY:

USS ELMER MONTGOMERY suffers a fire in a storeroom while in port at Norfolk. The ship's crew with assistance from the USS MITSCHER (DDG 35) and the base fire department extinguish the fire. No personnel are injured and the damage is minor.
